Posts archived in Five Links for Friday

Yesterday it was official that Tuesday would not be the first day of school for us returnees. Instead it was Wednesday. Like I mentioned in my previous post, Wednesday consist of cancelled labs, which means there is no school for my set until Thursday. It apparently consists of 4 50 minutes lectures. All of them lectures too. That’s going to be fun. At least I’ll start school with a full stomach since class begins at 12:30pm that day.

Fun. I also started coding my new layout. It’s not doing so well. Maybe I’ll work on it today and tomorrow since I have nothing better to do.

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, I went to Stanley Park with Christian and Naomi. It all started out great until I ran out of batteries and I put in my spare and it was empty too. Either way I learnt a great deal from them about photography, plus I got exercise from all the walking. Can’t wait until we do another photo-walk again!

After it was an awesome commute from Downtown to White Rock. The 351 (Bridgeport to White Rock Centre) is one of those snazzy yellow buses with coach buses seats and air conditioning. Not gonna lie, but I don’t mind having it for every single bus ride. (They have them for Hong Kong.)

Then it’s Labour Day Monday where my parents “dragged” me to White Rock Pier. Yes, the same White Rock that I was at on Saturday and Sunday. I can’t complain since it was a gorgeous day out and I’ve never been. And yes, the rock is painted white. I really should find out if the rock was originally there or only put there after White Rock was created. It’s a chicken or egg kind of deal.

And I’m only down to 5 movies left before I hit 100 movies watched! I also updated my about page with some minor adjustments. I am hoping to watch Limitless soon. I still have A Single Man and Blue Valentine that I keep putting off. Apparently I should watch E.T. too. That’s 4 right there. Also I am really disappointed in Thor. The end.

PS: I’m still debating if I should stick to uploading photos to my blog via Flickr (lower), or have it hosted on my own domain (top photos). I have no opinion on either other than I have to upload some on Flickr anyway. The down side is that they’re at different sizes, or else I’d stick to both.

I See You There…

I haven’t forgotten about this place! It is just that I haven’t done anything interesting, or I think interesting that warrants an update. I swear I’m going to work on my photography blog thing because what a waste if I don’t! I should make a landing page too if I’m going to have more than one thing on this domain.

Or do people not do landing pages anymore? I will need to reroute the blog to a separate page then. Hmm.

The last time I updated my Movies page was at Terminator 2! That was at movie 71. Now it’s up to movie 86! I am watching a movie after this blog entry and hopefully a few more of those Futurama movies will bump me to up 90 soon. At least I know I will make it to 100 movies this year, after trying to reach that mark for so many years!

At this point I’m just looking to going back to school. I can’t believe my summer break is finally almost over. It will be nice getting back to a normal routine. I’m just not looking forward to waking up at 6:30 when it’s still freakishly dark outside.

Before that, I still have a Vancouver Canadians (baseball) game to go to, grabbing my U-Pass and new Student ID, and a Photo-Walk with my tweeps! Despite my hermit-like state this summer, I actually did a lot of things with my parents and friends. Maybe I’ll do a recap thing in the near future to celebrate the Summer Break of 2011.

I seriously still can’t believe there was a person up at that sign. I didn’t even notice until I put up the picture on Flickr and started typing in the comment box. Where was I during the editing process?

PS: And now it’s 87 movies since I re-watched Jeux d’enfants (Love Me if You Dare) between starting this post, editing and uploading photos onto Flickr, and finishing this post.

On Monday, I went to Harrison Lake with the folks. It was touch and go weather-wise, but it stayed mostly cloudy with a bit of sun peeking out whenever it can. It almost took us 2 hours driving to get there with a short stop at KFC. We didn’t go the Highway 1 way, rather taking the Highway 7 (and semi slower speed 90km/hr vs 110km/hr) route. There were no one around so I assume it was an easier ride. (I wasn’t the one driving…)

Quack.

Just Peaceful.

Showboating, eh?

The entire time we were joking how there was no difference looking at the pictures taken at Harrison Lake or from the stops we took at Alaska. Giant lake, trees, glaciers. Hahaha. I guess it’s because we’re so used to seeing this that it doesn’t faze us anymore.

I haven’t be very active with photo retouching and uploading them to Flickr or Facebook. I’ve been pretty slack on myself this week. I find myself playing Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 the past few days and today started playing Sims 2 again. It certainly brings back memory seeing the old legacy families that I used to have. (I remembered to save the neighbourhoods and the downloadables!)

It’s a Late Night edition of Friday Five… of Links!
  • Shit My Students Write – Students BS their work every day. Now you get to see how bad it is. Don’t eat or drink while you read this.
  • Nerdi - A collection of useful sites and tools for web design, such as the Grid System, Colour Generator, etc. I definitely recommend bookmarking this!
  • Dribbble - Looking for inspiration? Look no further to this site where users post bits and pieces of their WIPs (Work-In-Progresses???).
  • GetGlue - Like Foursquare, check into what you’re doing or watching to earn stickers (..and the points don’t matter!). You can even early physical copies of the sticker. I’m still waiting for my order… it’s been 2 months, I think. Whoops.
  • Ninite  – This site should be pretty popular and well-known. But nothing like reiterating it again. Select the programs you want and it downloads all in a batch! It includes useful programs like web browsers, media, run-time, messenger programs.
PS: No, I have not seen Harry Potter yet. /hides
Also, I think I’m going to forgo the tags. It’s pretty useless if I already have them sorted by categories. Going to fix that tomorrow or Sunday, depending if I go out tomorrow.
